Privacy Policy

Budge (“we”, “us”) provides a personal budgeting app at makeitbudge.ai. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. Your money is your business — we built Budge to keep it that way.
Information we collect
- Account information. When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and a securely hashed password (handled by Google Firebase Authentication).
- Financial data, via Plaid. When you choose to connect a bank, our data provider Plaid securely retrieves account details, balances, and transactions on a read-only basis. We never see or store your bank login credentials, and Budge cannot move money.
- Information you add. Budgets, savings goals, and questions you ask the in-app assistant.
- Usage data. Basic, non-identifying information about how the app is used, to keep it working and improve it.
How we use your information
- Provide the core service: aggregate your accounts, categorize transactions, calculate budgets and your “safe to spend”, and track goals.
- Power the “Ask Budge” assistant (see below).
- Maintain security, prevent abuse, and debug problems.
- Communicate with you about your account or the service.
We do not use your financial data for advertising, and we do not sell your personal or financial information to anyone.
AI-powered insights
When you use “Ask Budge”, a summary of your in-app financial data (such as account balances, categorized spending, and recent transactions) is sent to our AI provider, Anthropic, to generate a response to your question. This data is processed to answer you and is not used to train AI models. We send only what is needed to answer your question.
Who we share it with
We share information only with service providers that help us operate Budge:
- Plaid — secure bank connectivity. Plaid’s handling of your data is described in the Plaid End User Privacy Policy.
- Google Firebase — authentication and database hosting for your account and app data.
- Anthropic — AI processing for the assistant feature, as described above.
- Vercel — application hosting.
- Authorities, only where required by law or to protect rights and safety.
We never sell your data, and we do not share it for third-party advertising.
How we protect your data
Bank connections are read-only. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, access tokens are encrypted, and access to systems is restricted. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information using industry-standard safeguards.
Your choices and rights
- Disconnect a linked bank at any time from within the app.
- Access, correct, or delete your account and associated data.
- Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
To exercise any of these, email salman@makeitbudge.ai and we’ll respond promptly. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA.
Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your personal and financial data, except where we must retain limited records to comply with legal obligations.
Children
Budge is not directed to, and not intended for, anyone under 18.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Budge evolves. We’ll revise the “last updated” date above and, for material changes, notify you in the app or by email.
